The New Maruti Suzuki Sx4 S-Cross
Maruti showed the S-Cross, which is going to overpower and end the era of SX4, earlier at the 2014 Auto Expo but it was overshadowed by the launch of the Celerio and the unveiling of the Ciaz concept.
the new model replaces the old SX-4 bringing larger dimensions and increased occupant and luggage space as a result. The S-Cross is 160mm longer than the car it replaces with a 100mm longer wheelbase. Boot space is a class leading 430-litres or 1269-litres with the 60:40 split rear seats folded flat.
Expected Launch: December 2015
Expected Price: 8 - 14 lakhs
Maruti Suzuki S-Cross SX4 is not launched in India yet. Information on this page is tentative
Exterior Looks
The S-Cross SX4 despite being a crossover has a very familiar shape that the Indian market will be able to recognise, thanks to the presence of the SX4 sedan that has been on sale here since 2006. The front gets a three piece black grille with the Suzuki logo prominently standing in the middle. The headlights are the same as before but now get daytime LEDs. There is a black plastic cladding running along the base with a bit under the number plate holder and doors in a silver shade. The side profile has changed slightly from the previous vehicle with the roofline being altered slightly. At the back, the S-Cross SX4 retains a similar profile as the outgoing vehicle but now gets sharper features including a new design for the tail lamps. The silver and black cladding can be seen here too and runs the length of the rear bumper. Suzuki has also fitted roof rails but in India we expect that they will offer a carrier as an optional extra.
Interior Looks
Suzuki is known as the car of masses, which is their first principle policy. Well we can very well see this in reflecting in the interiors of this car. The interiors of the car are very well similar to the Maruti Suzuki Swift. The steering wheel, gauges, gearbox, stalks and buttons are all exactly the same as is the case with the layout. the rare seats can easily be comfortable for 3 people, and it can be folded to expand the boot space.
The Engine
The Suzuki Sx4 S-Cross deliver a decent engine in its price range, but its quite noisy. The Automatic version uses a CVT gearbox that is totally noisy when you try to drive upside on steep slopes. Where in the 6-Speed Manual is far better for this crisp and peppy ride. However the performance does not suggest it to be an off-road vehicle. The 1.6 Diesel variant will offer you 118 bhp and i think that will be the best to go for then any other variant.
Sources say :
Maruti has given the S-Cross certain interesting elements to add some dynamism to an otherwise modest visual profile. The car boasts LED daytime running lights on the high-end variant, and is also expected to get 16-inch alloy wheels and a black cladding. Outside India the car is sold with Allgrip 4×4. It isn’t clear as yet is the Indian version will be equipped with the system. Powering the car will be a 1.6 liter diesel engine capable of producing 118bhp.
My view :
As Suzuki has always been India's favorite car, this one is going to be a tough competition for Eco-sport, Duster & Etios-cross. Mileage is going to be a key point and of course the pricing. Going on the international market, this car will cost you roughly about 12-13 lacks INR.
If you are looking for some big car and economic, your wait is over. This seems to be a perfect car for the big Indian Family.
Some minus points on the 'all plastic' looks in the interior which makes it look a bit cheap and dull from within. The engine makes a lot of noise but if you can bear its fine. It will be a bit problematic for tall drivers to fit in as the roof space is low. Comfort it is on a better level but looks go down. Safety has been good point in this vehicle.
Looking forward if Suzuki offers something different for the Indian market.
